01 / Choose the cushion route

PU support cushion or
slow-recovery contact layer?

First decide whether the question is the whole cushion shape/support or a slow-recovery contact feel. Then compare whole-cushion and composite proposals in the same seat, rather than assume a layer can replace every other function.

01 / PU cushions

Shape, support and cover fit.

Consider PU when the main task is the cushion shape and support within the seat. Density and ILD are separate selection fields; the base, thickness and cover remain part of the review.

02 / Memory Foam cushions

Response and layered structure.

Consider Memory Foam when slow recovery is part of the desired contact response. A composite proposal can separate that contact layer from the supporting cushion; its thickness and layer arrangement need an assembled comparison.

02 / Material routes

Compare an assembled seat.
Not density alone.

Separate the part that establishes the cushion shape and support from any proposed contact layer. A layered concept introduces a second material and interface; it needs its own assembled sample, not the approval of one loose piece.

Density alone is not a comfort or durability ranking. Define the method, cushion structure and assembled-seat review conditions.
Seating decision Material direction Why consider it / what changes the sample
Whole-cushion shape and support PU route PU selection includes density, ILD and formed-cushion geometry. Start here when the unresolved question is the main cushion shape/support. Compare the proposed grade and shape in the actual base and cover rather than choose by density alone.
Slow-recovery contact response Memory Foam route Slow recovery is the reason to add Memory Foam to the comparison. Identify whether it is the whole cushion or a contact layer; the material name alone does not establish the supporting structure or an acceptable seat response.
Whole cushion or layered construction PU / Memory Foam A contact layer and a support cushion have different jobs in the proposed construction. Changing layer thickness or arrangement changes the sample being assessed. Keep the same base, cover and contact zones and compare each complete configuration separately.

03 / Prepare the seating sample

What the sample
can and cannot establish.

  • Review the proposed cushion/layer arrangement in the actual base and cover.
  • Observe shape, installation and the stated seating-response question in that configuration.
  • Compare density/ILD or recovery records only with the relevant method and sample conditions.
  • A sample observation is not a service-life, pressure-relief or medical-performance result.

Useful questions

Before you
choose a cushion.

How should PU and Memory Foam cushions be compared?

Use the same seat geometry, base, cover and acceptance task. Preserve each route’s grade and method questions. The family names do not establish a comfort or durability ranking.

Does density alone determine how a cushion performs?

No. Review density alongside the applicable ILD or response record, thickness, geometry and installed seat context. Do not infer comfort or life from density alone.
