Electronics / Foam applications

Foam for
electronics.
Start with the job.

Match electronics foam to its job: protect a product in transit, organize an insert or review a temperature-sensitive equipment interface.

Shipping insert
or installed interface?

A shipping insert and an installed foam part need different dimensions, conditions and sample checks.

01 / Transport

Protect in transit.

EPE offers sheet/roll and shaped-insert directions. EVA adds hardness, colour and thickness choices for an insert. The proposed form must still leave the product accessible for packing and removal.

02 / Installed interfaces

Fit the interface.

Silicone foam enters a temperature- and medium-led insulation/sealing discussion. It is an installed-interface question, not a substitute for an EPE/EVA shipping insert.

02 / Material routes

Compare EPE / EVA inserts
and silicone interfaces.

The material choice follows the supply form and task. EPE sheet/roll routes and EVA hardness/colour/thickness choices are different reasons to enter an insert discussion; neither establishes ESD or transport performance.

Other routes require review. Define ESD, flame, electrical or enclosure ratings separately and request project-specific evidence.
Project task Material direction Why consider it / what changes the shortlist
Sheet/roll or shaped transport liner EPE EVA EPE is a sheet/roll and shaped-insert direction for electronics and precision instruments. EVA is another insert direction when hardness, colour or thickness choice is part of the brief. Compare the actual proposed form, not the names as a protection ranking.
Precision-instrument transport EPE The supported EPE application is a transport liner. A concept that obstructs part removal or contacts an excluded surface needs a geometry change, whatever its material. Sensitive-surface compatibility and shipping protection need evidence for the actual packed system.
Equipment insulation/sealing interface Silicone Foam Silicone foam is a temperature- and medium-led candidate for equipment insulation/sealing. Keep shipping protection separate: an interface proposal must address the actual joint and assembly. Grade-specific temperature, media and any electrical/flame requirements can change or exclude the candidate.

03 / Prepare the sample brief

Define what the
electronics sample represents.

  • Insert sample: proposed material/form, product, enclosure and support zones together.
  • Installed sample: proposed grade, mating surfaces and assembly configuration.
  • Check packing/removal or installation in that configuration, not only the loose foam.
  • Identify any required surface, ESD, flame, electrical or temperature evidence and who accepts it.

Useful questions

Before you
choose a foam.

How do transport inserts differ from installed electronics foam parts?

Transport inserts support and position a product in packaging. Installed parts are reviewed against mating surfaces, assembly access and exposure conditions. Keep these as separate application briefs.

Does the material range prove ESD or electrical compliance?

No. The current material information does not provide grade-specific ESD, flame, electrical insulation or enclosure-rating evidence. State the requirement and request the applicable evidence before selection. Application illustrations do not establish a tested grade or a completed customer project.

What starts an electronics foam project?

Send the product or interface drawing, contact zones, installation or packing sequence, exposure questions and proposed sample acceptance checks.
