Westminster Dog Show 2022: Tuesday’s Highlights & Winners

the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show 2022 was in full swing Tuesday with the first round of Group judging, and four of the seven finalists competing for Best in Show have secured their places.

“America’s Dog Show” kicked off Saturday at the Lyndhurst Estate in Tarrytown, New York, as Bee, the Shetland Sheepdog, won the highly anticipated 9th Annual Masters Agility Championship.

The competition continued on Monday with the Master Obedience Championship – a command-driven competition open to both purebreds and All-Americans (mongrels), where Willie the Australian Shepherd took home the title of 2022 WKC Masters Obedience Champion.

With the agility and obedience contests on the books, the first night of group judging arrived. Breed judging in the hound, toy, non-sporting and herding groups concluded Tuesday afternoon, with the top dogs competing against other breeds in their respective groups to advance to the Best in Show judging on Wednesday.

Hound was the largest of the four groups judged on Tuesday, followed by Herding, Toy and Non-Sporting.

Tuesday’s first winner was trumpet the hound for the Hound Group.

Bloodhounds are large independent, inquisitive and friendly hounds originally bred to hunt deer and wild boar. Borzoi, Norwegian Elkhound and Harrier rounded out the top four spots for Hounds.
